The UAE’s largest bus distributor, Swaidan Trading, has expanded its business into Oman with the sale of 40 low-floor city buses to the Oman National Transport Company (ONTC). Trading as First Vehicles, the company has supplied the popular and fuel-efficient VDL buses which will be operated as public city buses. First Vehicles will also provide an after sales-service to ONTC.
This is the company’s first venture in Oman. Commenting on the move, Ajit Kumar, CEO, Swaidan Trading, said: “This is our first step on an exciting journey into Oman and we are looking to expand our business even further. We not only supply VDL buses but also offer a full maintenance service and supply spare parts. We have a large accessible team of well-trained and highly qualified technicians already on the ground.”
The popular VDL brand is one of the leading Western European manufactured bus brands. Specialising in public transport buses and high end luxury coaches, VDL is renowned for its quality, safety, durability, comfort, low fuel consumption and low maintenance costs.
A joint venture with Al Izz Group, First Vehicles LLC (Oman) is dedicated to supplying high-end models of buses, passenger cars and commercial vehicles along with a comprehensive maintenance and spare parts service.
Swaidan Trading is the largest bus distributor in the UAE, known as a preferred supplier for the RTA as well as a significant portion of the school bus market.
The introduction of the electric school bus is one of many areas in which Dubai is looking to meet its green mobility targets. At the start of the year, the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and the Roads and Transport Authority set out new targets to decrease carbon emissions by 16 per cent by 2021.
